Nose

Definitely very meaty, sweet, a bit floral, despite the high ABV the smoke is not overwhelming

Body

Very punchy and aggressive smoke, a bit zesty, definitely sweet, oranges, limes, reflective of the high ABV, slightly oily, with water it becomes more enjoyable and zesty and sweet but still runs quite hot towards the end;a bit briny and iodine too

Finish

The finish is surprisingly not that long, a bit herbal, sweet

Nose

Very modern sherried nose, overwhelmingly sweet

Body

Very cask-driven dram, modern sherried and a bit peppery/spicy, sweet, oranges, gets a bit floral; does not feel as intense as a 60% ABV would suggest but definitely feels like a youthful dram, a bit nutty and slightly creamy; water does not change the whisky at all, bar making it a bit more smooth to drink and a bit more enjoyable but still quite one-dimensional

Finish

Long sweet finish, a bit dry

Finish

Long dry smoky finish, meaty, a bit salty and peppery; the smokiness lingers for a while

Murray McDavid

Quite a disappoiting Lagavulin, especially considering the 1970s vintage, would have easily blind guessed that this was a random Caol Ila

Nose

An elegant mix of smoky and floral, quite sweet, meaty, a bit mineral

Body

Salty, very meaty, sweet, the body is quite thin

Finish

Short finish, a bit oaky, sweet

Old-style sherried nose, raisins, prunes, dried dark fruits, bitter

Nose

Takes a bit time to open up but the nose is full of islandic salty peat smoke, dills, eucalyptus, a bit medicinal, a bit floral and creamy towards the end; quite a beautiful nose

Body

Sweet, tropical fruits, the peat comes out in troves but does not get overwhelming or hot, a bit of tea, gets zesty towards the end; the palate is incredibly full for a 40% whisky

Finish

Short finish, a bit disappointing after the nose and palate; slightly bitter and oaky
