Nose

A very meaty and slightly sweet smokiness, reminds me more of an Ardbeg or even a Caol Ila rather than a Laphroaig, gets a bit salty and briny towards the end

Body

The palates is full & quite sweet actually, although it does get progressively spicier and ends on a slightly salty note

Finish

Long, dry, spicy finish, the smoke lingers

One of the most bitter whiskies I’ve drank, too much cask influence

Nose

Old sherried nose but quite fresh actually, very sweet

Body

Starts off very sweet but then gets increasingly bitter, leathery, oily, a bit tannic towards the end, grapy

Finish

Long, dry, bitter finish

Nose

Quite a balanced mix between the meaty smokiness & sweet fruitiness, which is surprising considering that it’s a younger Ardbeg

Body

Definitely a typical Ardbeg palate, very meaty but also slightly salty and gets sweeter over time, surprisingly a bit floral

Finish

Long smoky finish, very meaty and gets a bit spicy

Nose

Fresh, grassy, nutty, slightly floral & oily

Body

Quite sweet, honey, burnt sugars, slightly fruity, quite 1 dimensional in terms of flavor, a bit of vanilla and creamy towards the end

Finish

Slightly hot & spicy finish, which is surprising for a 30 years old whisky, the creaminess is still there but gets overwhelmed

The nose is the nicest part of this dram

Nose

Orchard fruits, peachy, creamy, very fruity & sweet

Body

Sweet but gets kinda sour, fresh, modern sherry style, gets sweeter again towards the end, also a bit creamy

Finish

Slightly oversherried finish, a bit too sweet

It’s not everyday that you get to enjoy a dram from the 1950s and although this did not blow my mind, it definitely is one of the more enjoyable and easy to drink old-style sherry whiskies that I’ve had, although the complexity is not quite there

Nose

Dark fruits, honey, old-style sherry but a bit tame and not too tannic, woody, newspaper, gets a bit floral towards the end

Body

The body is typical of an old-style sherry, sweet, slightly grapy, gets a bit tannic & bitter towards the end

Finish

Quite a long finish for a 40% whisky, dry, slightly spicy, definitely sweet

Probably the most interesting Bruichladdich I’ve had, with a Pinot Gris finish, I think that this would have been an amazing dram in the 92-93 tier had it been bottled at a higher ABV perhaps 50%+

Nose

Super fruity nose, very fresh, melons, buttery, passion fruits, honeydews

Body

Very mellow & enjoyable body, definitely lots of melons, gets more floral over time

Finish

Medium, slightly oily and creamy finish

Surprisingly enjoyable & easy to drink despite the high ABV and young age

Nose

Dried fruits, raisins, probably one of the most sherried nose I’ve gotten from a Port Ellen, perhaps even a bit sulphruic, the zesty briny smokiness comes through after a bit

Body

Ah yes the body is exactly why I love this distillery, punch briny salty smoke accompanied by a touch of zestiness, gets increasingly sweeter & sherried towards the end with a slight spiciness

Finish

Long lingering smoky finish
