Probably the cheapest dram of Brora I have ever seen at only 30 SGD for a 10ml dram! Not a bad Brora, especially given the cheap price, but definitely the most underwhelming dram from this distillery that I’ve tried

Nose

Waxy & oily, sweet but not overwhelming, fruity, slightly floral; definitely no signs of peat here

Body

The palate is a bit fuller than I expected, again with more fruits and a bit of spices

Finish

Medium, salty aftertaste before getting spicy again

A typical Irish dram, at 30 SGD for a 2cl pour there's not much to complain about

Nose

Typical Irish nose, cane sugars & very rum-my

Body

Sweet, floral, again quite rum-my, a typical Irish whiskey, orchard fruits, peaches, gets softer and sweeter with water

Finish

Long, fresh, sweet finish

A good Port Ellen with a lot of oomph but hampered by the overwhelming spiciness but it’s understandable considering the age of this dram; acceptable quality given the quite affordable price (for a Port Ellen) of 50 SGD for a 20ml dram. The “Cask” series from Gordon & Macphail is often a hit or miss so it’s surprising to see a dram sitting in the middle

Nose

Beautiful coastal briny smoky nose, zesty, sweet

Body

Definitely a very zesty Port Ellen, very punchy as expected from the ABV With water it’s definitely more enjoyable, a bit briny and definitely still salty & spicy

Finish

Long lingering smoky finish

A single cask 32 years old Rosebank from Gordon & Macphail at 80SGD for a 2cl pour, a beautiful bottle and amazing Lowland nose but the body and finish falls off

Nose

Very fresh, grassy, floral & creamy nose, a beautiful elegant but vibrant nose

Body

Sweet, honey, definitely a bit spicy, oranges, quite zesty, extremely mouth-coating

Finish

Long sweet finish that’s slightly spicy

An amazing fresh Glen Grant hampered a bit by the finish but still easily my favorite old 50+ yo whisky, beautiful bottle as well!

Nose

Surprisingly fresh & fruity nose, very floral, would not have guessed that this was a 59yo whisky, sweet, honey, a delightful & elegant nose

Body

The oakiness does comes through in the palate, but the sweetness still overwhelms the bitterness that you get from a whisky that have spent almost 60 years in an oak cask, definitely floral but not perfumy

Finish

Slightly short finish

An absolutely gorgeous whisky that smells, tastes, and finishes very uniformly. Absolutely worth the price of 130 SGD for a 2cl pour. This is without a doubt the best Caol Ila I’ve ever had and amongst the best whiskies I’ve had in general!

Nose

A very punchy, typical meaty smoky Caol Ila nose, definitely mesmerizing for those who love BBQ peat smoke, gets a bit briny & iodine, oysters, sea salt, an absolutely gorgeous nose especially given that this is just a 15yo whisky!

Body

Delightful body, zesty, meaty, smoky, sweet, briny all at the same time, an absolutely amazing combination for an Islay whisky, can not believe that is just 15 years of age (except for the slight spiciness at the very end), with time there’s a bit more iodine notes reminding me of old Laphroaigs and the zestiness increases

Finish

Long, dry, briny, zesty, smoky finish

An elegant old Ardbeg, although I would have loved for it to be a bit smokier & punchy. At 170 SGD for a 2cl dram, definitely not an affordable dram by any means but I would say that it’s worth the money and experience given that it was my first 1960s Ardbeg!

Nose

Very floral & elegant nose, would not have guessed that this was an Ardbeg, quite sweet, very subtle smoke towards the end, slightly creamy, a bit fruity but understandable for an old Islay dram from the

Body

Sweet, malty, fresh fruits, the smokiness it subtle, a bit waxy and oily

Finish

50 SGD for a 2cl pour is good value for a bottle like this although I wished it was bottled at a higher ABV for an additional oomph and perhaps it could do with more complexity in the body

Nose

Meaty but also slightly briny smokiness, slightly zesty nose, a bit sweet

Body

Definitely a robust, meaty but also floral smoky body, quite easy to drink considering the ABV, quite sweet, definitely more like an old Caol Ila than a Port Ellen, slightly zesty towards the end

How can I resist a 1970s Port Ellen, especially when it was bottled on my birth year 2000! At just 50 SGD for a 2cl pour, it’s irresistible

Nose

Briny, sea smoke, zesty, elegant smoky nose with not a lot of sweetness, some iodine & seaweed

Body

A very tame body for a 50% dram but gets increasingly spicy & zesty & sweet with a smoky aftertaste, a hint of farminess & slightly creamy but the spiciness does get a bit dominant towards the end

Finish

Long, dry, briny smoky finish

Not what I expected from an early 1970s Bowmore because it’s from the legendary Kingsbury Celtic label series but for the price it is acceptable for the price of 60 SGD for a 1cl pour

Nose

Quite a meaty smoke, reminds me more of an Ardbeg, creamy, slightly grassy, a bit too elegant and soft imo

Body

Slightly sweet, the smokiness is very mellow in a disappointing way, quite floral but not soapy

Finish

Long smoky finish

A good punchy Brora but the soapiness makes it a bit disappointing, especially at 120 SGD for a 2cl pour

Nose

Beautiful sweet fruity nose with a hint of peat, minerals, salty, honestly a very pleasant & elegant nose but perhaps not as much oomph as you would expect given the ABV

Body

WOW, the palate is definitely very smoky and even burning (spicy) at times, definitely sweet & floral, borderline perfumy actually, with water it’s definitely better but still a bit spicy towards the end

Finish

A mellow, fruity, and long finish

Probably the oldest vintage Bowmore I’ve had and it’s from the quality Italian IB Sestante, I have very high expectations for 1960s Bowmores, especially considering their high prices (this was 85 SGD for a 10ml half-dram)

Nose

Surprisingly fresh and fruity nose, would not have guessed that this is a Bowmore, the smoke slowly opens up but still a very subtle floral smoke, gets a bit zesty towards the end

Body

A very delicate body, definitely more sweet than smoke, as a fan of more smoky whiskies I would say the body is still enjoyable but just not up to the expectations that I have for 1960s Bowmores as the body is just not that complex. Definitely not asking for a punchy, in your face kind of smoke but just something with a bit more oomph. It feels more like a 40 or 43% whisky rather than 49,1%.

Finish

A short finish, slightly disappointing considering the reputation that whiskies from the older vintages get (1950s and 1960s)

A very good Clynelish with an extremely complex & delicate nose and a very fulfilling body with no offnotes but a price tag that might be steep for some but it is expected for an early 1970s Clynelish (100 SGD for a 2cl pour)

For 60 SGD per 2cl dram, I think this is good value for a 1970s Ardbeg especially if you’re a fan of a more mellow, balanced smoky dram instead of a more punchy, aggressive, in-your-face kind of smoke and there’s just not a lot of complexity in the thin palate

Nose

A very punchy meaty smoke but gets more delicate & soothing over time

Quite a thin body, reflective of its ABV, alot of BBQ meatiness followed by a bit of sweetness, definitely one of those drams where you need a big gulp to fully enjoy it and feel the oomph
