Nose

Excellent nose, definitely a fruit-bomb

Body

Slightly sour/bitter fruitiness, definitely a very interesting profile that will not suit everyone, but gets increasingly sweet before getting slightly spicy towards the end. Surprisingly I get some old style sherried notes after a bit of time which is very interesting as this is the first time I’ve experienced this

Finish

Slightly bitter & spicy finish

Nose

Definitely very powerful old style sherried nose, definitely smells like old Macallan in its prime, dark dark fruits, raisins, prunes,

Body

Beautiful palate, one of the best and most enjoyable old style sherried whiskies that I have drank as there is a beautiful and delicate balance between the sweetness and the darker, bitter sherried notes

Finish

Long, mouthcoating finish, definitely impressive for a Macallan

A very solid cask strength Port Ellen from 1978

Nose

Beautiful typical Port Ellen nose, a delicate mixture between smokiness and zestiness, lemons, slightly iodine, some maritime saltiness,

Body

Definitely a very oomphy Port Ellen, slightly salted, then comes the sweetness, before the peatiness finally arrives, definitely a bit nutty as well

Finish

The peat smoke lingers, accompanied by the subtle zestiness, but the finish is not as long as I would expect

This dram definitely makes me feel the same way as I did after some of my favorite Port Ellen drams but it’s definitely much cheaper then the PEs

Nose

Nice peppery, gentle maritime smoke, light peatiness & a hint of sea saltiness, a lovely balanced nose, probably one of my favorite from Talisker

Body

The palate is amazing, with a very enjoyable balance between slightly sweetness and martime smokiness, zesty, bright fruits, peppery towards the end

Body

Quite a full and enjoyable body, definitely fruity and slightly sweet, fresh, orchards, peachy, sultanas, gets zesty towards the end

Finish

Long grassy finish, bright fresh fruits but gets slightly bitter

Not a bad dram but not as amazing as I would expect from a 1970s Glenugie in a dumpy SV

Nose

Very delicate nose, slightly creamy, honey, fresh fruits

Body

Sweet, honey, slightly bitter & spicy towards the end, very full body as expected from a 51,8% dram

Finish

Medium finish, slightly peachy and a bit menthol

Gordon & Macphail's

My first Tomatin from the 1960s and definitely an interesting one considering that I have mostly only experience 1x or 2x year old whiskies from this GM line while this is at 30yo

Nose

Typical old style sherry nose, dark dried fruits

Body

The palate is reflective of the nose but it is lighter than I expected, probably due to the 40% ABV; the palate is not as complex as I would expect from a 30 year old whisky

Finish

Medium, dry, slightly bitter finish
