An average Port Ellen, at least compared to the other dozen or so PE that I have tasted, and probably the least smoky PE

Nose

Typical Port Ellen nose, meaty, slightly salty, runs a bit hot, oysters

Body

Definitely more sweet than smoky, slightly zesty

Finish

Medium smoky, but an overall disappointing slightly hot & spicy finish

A 14yo Bowmore from the 2010s, that’s definitely my first! Definitely better than I expected from a young whisky

Nose

Quite a floral, sweet, and fresh nose but definitely spicy as expected from the youthfulness

Body

Sweet, honey, caramel, spicy & peppery towards the end, runs a bit hot on the tongue

Finish

Medium, slightly bitter finish

Nose

Creamy, sweet, honey, toffee, a very subtle delicate nose of peat smoke

Body

Definitely sweet, honey, caramel, slightly grassy, oily, oranges, tropical fruits, light smoke, a very full body that would suggest a 55-60% whisky rather than 48%

Finish

Long dry zesty finish

An Irish whiskey matured in American Oak and finished in virgin Irish Oak, a very interesting combination

Fresh summer fruits, floral, sweet, creamy, peaches, slightly grassy

Body

Taste exactly like the nose, actually even sweeter than I expected

Finish

Long, slightly spicy & bitter finish

Surprisingly fresh & not oaky at all for an almost 50-year old whisky

Nose

Floral, sweet summer fruits

Body

Sweet, oranges, zesty, hints of vanilla & a bit waxy, a very rich & full body for a 41% whisky, runs slightly hot

Finish

Medium finish, again quite zesty & honey, floral
