Solid cask strength Laphroaig that shines despite the young age

Nose

Iodine, seaweed, salty sea breeze, maritime smoke

Body

Smoky grilled meats, sweet but not overwhelming, the smoke remains ever-present throughout the taste, rich texture, robust & dense peat, coal & tar

Finish

Slightly herbal but still smoky finish

A good Ardbeg but slightly disappointing considering the 70s vintage, too much cask influence overshadowing the smoke

Nose

Smoky tea, minty

Body

Woody, pepper, sweet, slightly spicy, a nice balance of smoke & sweetness but leans more towards sherry sweetness towards the end

Finish

Long lemony, slightly bitter finish, the spices & cask influence becomes apparent

The first Port Ellen that I bought, distilled in 1983 right before the distillery was closed. A good Port Ellen but nothing to write home about & could easily be passed off as a Caol Ila, the nose is definitely the highlight of this dram as everything else just goes downward after, becomes too sweet

Nose

Slightly iodine smoke, reminds me of Laphroaig, becomes more meaty overtime, slightly spicy, hints of vanilla & creamy

Body

Clean, crisp, meaty smoke, slightly sweet, coal, ash, tar, campfire, salty, a very full body, as expected from the 50% ABV, the sweetness gets more dominant over the smoke towards the end

Finish

Medium finish, slightly bitter & oaky

A good sweet fruity Bruichladdich but it does runs a bit hot towards the end & hints of sulphur, good value at ~275eur on sale (for an OB of nearly 30yo from a respectable Islay distillery that’s also Limited Edition)

Nose

Rich tropical fruity nose with hints of smoke, honey, beeswax, waxy, dark chocolate, dark fruits, raisins, notes of sherry, a bit menthol at the end

Body

Caramel, honey, nice balance mix of sweet & spiciness but slightly bitter sherry towards the end, not alot of smoke (as expected from an unpeated Bruichladdich), again with the rich dark fruits, unexpectingly full body from a 45,1% dram

Finish

Long dried fruits finish, the dried fruits linger for a while in the mouth but it does get slightly bitter

An easy to drink warm up whisky with the main off-notes at the finish

Nose

Fresh summer fruits, citrus, menthol, hint of beeswax, honey, waxy, spices & pepper

Body

Very punchy & slightly spicy for a 48%, citrus, vanilla, the fruity sweetness lingers along with the spiciness

Finish

Long & dry finish, bittersweet with a bit of saltiness at the end
