A legendary 1991 bottling from Lagavulin and I can totally see why as it is up to par and comparable in terms of impressiveness with Port Ellens from the 1970s that's also older

Nose

An elegent mix of peat & sherry

Tobacco, gunpowder, dark chocolate, dried fruits, a wonderful balance between smoky & sweet, a 90s bottle that taste more like it was distilled in the 70s

WhiskyNotes — Ruben Luyten

Retrieved 05 October 2026

WhiskyNotes finds leathery peat, ash and smoke, with medicinal, herbal and fruity nuances. The palate is drier and more mineral than expected, bringing tar, liquorice, pepper, dried fruit and chocolate. The very long finish combines ash, seaweed and gentle cocoa sweetness. Ruben considers it elegant and clean, but thinner and less exuberant than the 2007 edition; his score is 92/100.
