A sherried Laphroaig 16 bottled for 2014 whisky festival in Germany; sherried Laphs are most of the time quite good. Overall a very enjoyable dram, a remarkable 16yo and a very good sherried smoky dram. Definitely one of the most impressive under 20yo whisky that I’ve drank, especially considering that it’s a 1998 and not one of those old school 1970s or even 1980s
Nose
The nose is intense with campfire smoke and only hints of sherry sweetness, does not have the usual seaweed iodine from Laphroaig but rather meaty smoke & slightly salty
Body
Taste similar to the nose, I would blind guess that this was an Ardbeg and not a Laphroaig from how meaty & smoky it is, the sweetness comes through increasingly towards the end, caramel & honey
Finish
Ashy, medium long finish, the meaty smokiness lingers
